Major container shipping lines have suspended all vessel crossings through the Strait of Hormuz following escalating tensions in the Middle East. Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, CMA CGM, and MSC have ordered vessels to shelter and rerouted services around Africa via the Cape of Good Hope. The Strait of Hormuz handles 20.9 million barrels of oil per day and significant LNG volumes. Ports like Jebel Ali and Khor Fakkan are critical transshipment hubs now facing disruption.
For project cargo movements into the Arabian Gulf, this creates immediate complications. Installation schedules do not wait for geopolitical resolution. Energy projects with fixed commissioning dates cannot absorb weeks of rerouting delays.
