An SPMT carries what no conventional trailer can. Here is what it is and when project cargo needs one.
A self-propelled modular transporter is a flatbed platform with independently steered axle lines, hydraulic suspension and its own drive unit. A single module carries around 90 tonnes. Link modules together and capacity climbs past 20,000 tonnes.
The hydraulic suspension levels the load across uneven ground and adjusts the platform height for precise positioning at the installation point.
SPMTs are specified when cargo cannot safely travel any other way. Reactor vessels. Transformer banks. Fabricated modules. Columns too long and too heavy for conventional arrangements.
Choosing an SPMT affects route requirements, permit conditions and site preparation.
At Transcar, SPMT selection is part of our transport engineering process from the outset. Not a haulage booking.
